Samuel S. Dennis 3d & Lillian W. Dennis Critical Care Center (CCC) Patient & Family Guidelines
The CCC unit has 13 beds and primarily cares for patients suffering from myocardial infarctions, trauma, complex surgery, and critical medical conditions. This state-of-the art unit incorporated advanced technology with a therapeutic approach by its interdisciplinary team.
In the CCC, we strive to deliver the highest standards of nursing and medical care to our patients. We have developed guidelines for families with a loved one in the CCC so that our staff can maximize the quality of care each of our patients receives. Please respect all of our patients and their confidentiality by adhering to the following guidelines:
Visiting Your Loved Ones:
Visiting hours are flexible according to the patient’s needs and condition. Visiting guidelines are:
8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
8:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.
We ask that you limit visitors to significant family and friends, and only two at a time. Staff may ask visitors to leave based on patient need. For health and infectious disease reasons, we recommend that young children not visit patients in the CCC. Feel free to discuss any concerns that you may have regarding our recommendations with the CCC staff.
The visitor lounge, located just outside the CCC, has comfortable seating and pay telephones. We ask that children be supervised at all times for safety reasons.
Communicating with the CCC Staff
Please designate one person to be a family spokesperson. The family spokesperson will receive and relay patient updates to other family members, friends and neighbors. Please leave that person’s name and telephone number with staff. The CCC staff will contact the spokesperson about any serious change in your loved one’s condition. As we respect the privacy rights of our patients, we will provide patient updates to the designated spokesperson of each patient between the hours of:
8:00 a.m.- 2:30 p.m.
3:30 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.
7:30 p.m.- 6:30 a.m.
Your cooperation is vital so that patient care can be completed and information relayed to the next shift efficiently and carefully.
Taking Care of Yourself
We encourage you and other family members to spend some time at home. Family members need frequent breaks to alleviate stress. It is OK to take care of your own needs and not visit if you do not feel up to it. Let the staff know where you can be located if needed.
There are clergy members representing all denominations on call at all times for patients and family. You are not only a family member, but part of the healing team. Please ask the CCC staff to contact the clergy, if desired.
Family Meditation Room/Healing Garden
The Meditation Room is located outside the doors of the CCC, off of the Visitor Lounge. It is a peaceful, welcoming space for private reflection or conversation. The Healing Garden is located outside the hospital near the CCC. There is seating available for quiet gatherings and conversation.
The Cafeteria is located on the first floor, down the hall from the CCC. Vending machines, a microwave oven, restrooms and an ATM are located just outside the cafeteria. Click here for cafeteria hours (link to conveniences document in patient and visitor information):
A coffee shop is located near the Urann Lobby, behind the volunteer desk. Please do not bring food into the CCC as your loved one may be on a special diet or unable to have food.
No balloons are allowed in the hospital, but cards and flowers are welcome. Please send clothing and valuables – including money and jewelry – home with family as there is limited storage space, and we cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items.
