The Sykes Emergency Department at Jordan Hospital is a 25-bed unit, staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by emergency medicine trained physicians and emergency nursing staff.

When patients arrive, an emergency nurse expedites care to those patients with the most serious conditions.

Jordan Hospital emergency physicians continuously upgrade their skills through seminars and in-service training programs. All providers are trained in both ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support).

All Jordan Hospital emergency nurses are ACLS providers, and many have advanced training in pediatrics and trauma. Many Jordan Emergency nurses are also certified as CENs (Certified Emergency Nurses) through the national Emergency Nurses’ Association.

The Emergency Department (ED) also has a permanent helipad available to provide for the rapid transfer of the most critically ill patients to a tertiary center in Boston such as our affiliated partner Tufts Medical Center.
