About Us

The Lung Cancer Program at Jordan Hospital allows people living on the South Shore and Cape Cod to receive high-quality care from experienced specialists using the latest equipment and techniques—while remaining close to their homes, work, and support systems.

For patients requiring lung cancer treatment, we offer a multidisciplinary detection and treatment program as part of the Jordan Hospital Club Cancer Center. Our patients receive:

Led by Board-Certified Thoracic Surgeon Francis J. Podbielski, MD, the Lung Cancer Program works in consultation with a multidisciplinary team of medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and PET/CT specialists.

If further treatments or consultations are indicated, they can usually be coordinated through Jordan Hospital’s own specialists and physicians right at Jordan Hospital.

Jordan Hospital is also affiliated with Tufts Medical Center, a nationally renowned center of excellence for complex care.

Meet “Dr. Pod”

Francis J. Podbielski, M.D.

Dr. Podbielski received his medical degree from Chicago’s Northwestern University after completing both B.A. and M.S. degrees at the University of Chicago. He did his residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University and his general surgery residency at Columbus Hospital in Chicago.

He is certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and is the author of numerous original reports, reviews and abstracts.

Dr. Podbielski received the American College of Chest Physicians, Humanitarian Service Award, along with the Felix G. Cataldo Lifetime Achievement Award. He was also the recipient of the AMA Physicians Recognition Award with Commendation
